Boykin Spaniel

A medium-sized dog breed of the Spaniel group, the Boykin Spaniel appears in a weather-resistant, brown or liver-hued coat in wavy, curly, or smooth varieties. Also characteristic of this breed is a set of yellow-to-amber colored eyes, providing an emphatic and inquisitive expression. Boykin Spaniels are an intelligent and loyal breed with a calm and gentle disposition. A remarkable sense of smell and an enthusiasm for swimming and field sports of all types makes the Boykin Spaniel a well-befitted, all-purpose hunting and companion animal. Quick to learn and easily trained, these dogs coexist well with children or pets. Living environments with at least a moderate amount of outside space will provide adequate space to satisfy this breed’s need for daily exercise. This breed and it’s skill for flushing and retrieving game were first discovered during the early 1900’s in South Carolina, where the breed has also been designated as the state dog. Boykin Spaniels grow to reach 15-18” in height at 25-40lbs. once fully mature, with an average lifespan of 14-16 years of age.
