The largest of the toy breeds, the CKCS is most popularly recognized for a long, silky coat, appearing in four, distinct color combinations, ranging from a color called, “blenheim” (seen as a pearly white accented by dark chestnut markings), to a tri-color (seen as black and white with select markings of tan), a black and tan, and a ruby. This coat grows to feather along the breed’s ears, chest, legs, feet, and tail. The CKCS’s large, dark eyes are round and expressive. Said to be the friendliest, most affectionate of the toys, CKCS are sometimes referred to as the, “ultimate lap dog.” Making great pets in homes with or without children, these dogs are both playful and patient by nature. This breed thrives off of human companionship, and does best when not left alone for long periods of time. Said to have developed in the United Kingdom as a hunting companion, this breed’s lineage can be traced back to as early as the 16th and 17th centuries. The CKCS typically grows to reach 12-13” in height at the withers, weighing 10-18lbs. once fully grown. The largest of the toy breeds, the average CKCS has a lifespan ranging from 9-15 years of age.
