Chartreux
The Chartreux is a characteristically robust breed of domestic cat seen with a broad shoulder base, deep chest, and stubby, finely-boned legs. Marking this breed’s most easily-identifiable trait is a unique double coat with a wooly texture that can be seen predominantly in a blue-grey color. Erect, highly-set ears and a set of gold or copper-colored eyes set at a slightly upward curve provide the breed with the appearance of a rounded, almost smiling face. Chartreux are both playful, as well as, intelligent cats, and are well-known for their many, “dog-like” tendencies, including a love for the game of fetch. Generally known as a quiet breed, these cats are said to posses more of a, “chirp,” than a, “meow.” Despite shared tendency to bond especially close with just one of their owners, these cats adapt well to living environments containing children, other cats, and even dogs. A naturally occurring breed bearing a heritage that can be traced back to as early as the 16th Century, the Chartreux remained foreign to the year of 1971, when John and Helen Gamon introduced them to the U.S. Members of this breed are sometimes referred to as a, "potato on toothpick," due to their inherent stature. Chartreux reach physical maturity at around three years of age, growing between 9-12lbs. once full grown.
