The French Bulldog is a compact, yet strong breed of dog with a low-maintenance coat found in an assortment of patterns and hues including brindle, cream, fawn, mouse, and white. With a wide base that comes to a rounded point at the top, French Bulldogs are known for their uniquely-shaped ears, resembling those of a bat. They have a snub-nose and naturally short tails, adding to the breeds’ diminutive appearance. With a need for companionship, French Bulldogs are typically friendly, outgoing dogs, making good pets in homes with or without children. French Bulldogs require modest amounts of exercise, with an energy level ranging from high-strung to casual. Sometimes noted as stubborn, this breed does best when patiently and consistently trained and handled from early-on. Originating as a miniature version of the English Bulldog, this breed can attribute its' name to the popularity they achieved during the mid to late 1800’s in France, after being brought over by Normandy lace workers as companions. Quickly a well-known companion of French prostitutes, the French Bulldog boomed in popularity as French upper class searched for a more intrepid, bold image. French Bulldogs generally grow to reach 12” in height at 16-28lbs. once full grown.
