Himalayans are a domestic cat breed characteristically seen with a set of large, deep blue, round eyes. Also traditional of the breed is a long, white coat, appearing with tabby, lynx, or tortoiseshell points in the colors of blue, brown, lilac, chocolate, flame, red, or cream. This profuse coat requires daily upkeep, and can prove to be considerably high maintenance. Himalayans are noted for their undeniably sweet, affectionate demeanors. Intelligent and highly outgoing felines, Himalayans have been known to serve well-matched companions in many, predominantly indoor-only homes or living environments. Inherited from this breed’s ancestral, Persian and Siamese roots is a distinct coat pattern (from the Siamese), long coat length (from the Persian), and sweet temperament (also from the Persian). Today, the Himalayan is considered one of the most popularly owned types of all the Persian breeds; sometimes referred to as the Colorpoint Persian in several countries abroad. Growing to reach up to 20” in height once fully matured, the average Himalayan can live to reach up to 20 years of age.
