The Japanese Bobtail is a rare domestic breed of cat appearing in both short and semi-longhaired varieties, most popularly seen in white with red and black accents. Characteristic of all Japanese Bobtails is a stubby, “pom pom,” like tail, growing no more than 3” in length. Large, slanted eyes and well-defined cheekbones emphasize this breed’s triangular head, while small, ovular long legs and a narrow chest sum up its sturdiness. Japanese Bobtails are an energetic breed well-known for their quick-acting reflexes and high level of intelligence. While possessing an obvious elegance about them, members of this breed have sometimes been described as a bit headstrong. They tend to require a minimum of time spent alone or without companionship, thus, living environments containing children, other cats, and even dogs, will best suit this breed’s need to occupy its time and energy. The existence of this breed has been immortalized by numerous pieces of artwork dating back many centuries ago, as well as, as a stylized symbol of good luck or fortune embedded within its native Japanese culture. Growing to reach 6-9lbs. once fully mature, the average Japanese Bobtail generally enjoys a longer and healthier lifetime than most other cat breeds.
