The Jack Russell Terrier is an energetic working breed appearing in a white coat in smooth, broken, or wire-haired varieties marked with tan, brown, or reddish-black patches. A black nose, set of dark, almond-shaped eyes, and forward- folding, v-shaped ears create a look of perkiness to appropriately match the Jack Russell Terrier’s sunny demeanor. Sometimes described as a big dog in a small dogs’ body, the Jack Russell Terrier is both intelligent and athletic, while still remaining compact. Their determined and fearless nature and strong hunting instinct is well- balanced by the breed’s dutiful and caring composure. Typically very playful, Jack Russell Terriers enjoy any challenge or activity they are invited to take on, and make great pets in most homes with mature children. While easily trained to perform tricks, this breed may prove difficult to peaceably exist with other, smaller types of pets. Originating in England during the 19th Century, Jack Russell Terriers were initially bred to hunt fox. The average Jack Russell Terrier grows 10-12” in height at 14-18lbs. once fully grown, with an average lifespan lasting 15 or more years of age.
