Manx

Manx are a domestic breed of cat appearing in four different varieties and characterized by a shared inheritance of a dominant gene known to predetermine tail length. While the tailless, otherwise known as, “rumpy,” variety is most popularly recognized, these felines can also be seen in, “rumpy riser,” “stumpy,” and even full-tailed varieties- all available in a rainbow of colors in either a glossy, short-haired or silky, long-haired coat-type. A knack for jumping surprisingly high is provided by a set of strong, hind legs, which grow longer than the front, contributing to this round-faced feline’s unique, almost rabbit-like form. Both friendly and affectionate, Manx develop an especially strong bond with their owners, making the acclimation of any transfer to a new owner an extremely difficult task. Frequently demonstrating dog-like habits, these cats are said to train easily to walk on a leash, and enjoy participating in games such as fetch, wading in the water, going on rides in the car, and have even been known to bury or hide their toys. Mentioned in numerous stories, fables, and myths from all over the world, cats bearing a close resemblance to the Manx breed are scattered all throughout history. The breed is thought to have originated as early as the 1600’s on an island located just off of the English coast called the Isle of Man. While solid in body, Manx are a medium-sized breed of cat, reaching maturity by age 5 at 8-12lbs.
