Ocicats are a large, athletic breed of domestic cat popularly known for coupling the beautiful appearance of a wild cat with an outgoing and friendly temperament appropriate for the home. This breed’s short, shiny coat is decorated by a pattern of unique spots, and can be seen in a variety of colors, spanning from tawny, to chocolate, to cinnamon, blue, lavender, fawn, silver, chocolate silver, cinnamon silver, blue silver, lavender silver, or fawn silver. Often described as being almost, “dog- like,” in their habit, Ocicats can be easily trained to go on walks with leash and harness, and are also considerably tolerant of water. Characteristically, these cats are extremely sociable, very people-oriented felines. Their friendly and affectionate personality can coexist in an array of living situations, including those that will warrant exposure to other types of cats, children, and even dogs. Homes that will ensure a limited time spent alone will best suit this breed’s need for human attention. Originating thanks to a Michigan-resident named Virginia Daly, ancestors of the Ocicat can be traced back to both Siamese and Abyssinian bloodlines. Ocicats are one of the larger of the feline breeds, growing to reach 7-20lbs. in weight once fully mature. Females generally weigh less than males of the breed.
