Bengal - The Bengal is one of today’s more widely recognized breeds of domestic cats. Seen in both marbled and spotted coat-types decorated by rosettes in brown, seal, sepia, mink, and more, the Bengal is distinguished by a set of distinct, horizontal stripes known as "mascara" which run from the eyes to the back of this breed’s neck. At large, the Bengal is known as highly energetic, very playful feline breed; requiring a great deal of attention and interaction with their owners. Sharing an unusual love for water, as well as, a considerably vocal, expressive nature, this breed’s friendly, responsive tendencies are best catered to when given the opportunity to engage in stimulating activities (rather than cuddling or snuggling). Widely credited for the development of the Bengal breed is a Jean Mill from California. Appearing as a hybrid during the 1970’s, these cats were developed as a result of a cross between the Asian Leopard Cat and other several other breeds, including the Egyptian Maus, American Shorthair, Abyssinian, and Ocicat.
