Boston Terrier - A compact, well-proportioned dog with a characteristically marked coat, the Boston Terrier can be found in color combinations of black, brindle, and seal. Erect ears and a short tail and short muzzle provide the breed with a spunky look. Also commonly referred to as the, "American Gentleman," Boston terriers have a gentle, square-shaped face to match their pleasant and dignified demeanor. Originally bred for fighting, Boston Terriers are very alert; still retaining the typical feistiness of a terrier despite their small stature. Boston Terriers enjoy being around people, and, if properly socialized, get along well with children, the elderly, and other animals, as well. Prone to climatic temperature extremes, Boston Terriers do best when living in moderate climates. Like many of the other short-muzzled breeds, Boston Terriers have a tendency to snore. Originating in America during the late 1800’s, ancestors of the Boston Terriers include English Bulldogs, English White Terriers, and French Bulldogs. Boston Terriers became the first non-sporting, AKC-recognized breed with an American origin in 1983. Once fully mature, Boston Terriers grow reach 15-17” in height at the withers, weighing between 10-25lbs. The average Boston Terriers' lifespan generally lasts between 13-15 years of age.
