Chinese Crested - Appearing in two varieties called the Hairless and the Powderpuff, the CC is a toy breed of dog popularly recognized for a distinct and unusual appearance. While the Hairless variety of CCs has a predominantly bare body with tufts of fur growing to create socks, a plumed tail, and a crested, sometimes bearded head, the Powderpuff variety grows a full, thick double coat. Especially long toes provide the CC with a unique attribute known as a, “hare foot,” uncommon in most every other dog breed. Allergy sufferers find both CC varieties to be quite tolerable. To match the CC’s unforgettable image is a charming and candid personality. Homes containing a family will best suit this very affectionate, playful breed. The CC tends to bond especially close with one, single family member. Origins of the CC remain disputed to this day, though some accounts of documentation can be traced back to as early as the 1700’s. Also sometimes referred to as the Chinese Edible, Chinese Ship, Chinese Royal, or Chinese Hairless, the CC was first recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1991. Growing to reach approximately 12” in height at less than 10lbs. once fully mature, the CC has an average lifespan of 15 years.
