Korat - The Korat is a domestic cat breed most easily recognized by their large, expressive, stunningly green eyes and soft, close-lying coat in a silver-tipped, dark blue hue. These medium-sized cats have a low percentage of body fat with a body-type that can be described as semi-cobby. Well-known for a markedly quick and responsive personality, Korats are an active breed with an unexpected amount of spunk. They have a tendency to establish an especially close bond with their owners, and do best in homes that exclude other types of pets or animals. While appearing in the U.S. sometime during the 1950’s, the Korat’s origins can be traced back to as early as the mid 1300’s in Thailand. Here this breed is highly regarded as a symbol of good-luck or fortune-so much so that the tradition of bestowing a pair of Korats as a wedding gift to a newlywed couple is still, to this day, practiced.
