Toy Poodle - Deft and agile, the Poodle is a breed appearing in a dense, curly coat coming in a variety of colors, including black, blue, silver, gray, cream, apricot, red, white, and brown. Routine grooming of this coat is necessary; the most popular trims appearing in one of three styles- the puppy or kennel clip, the continental clip, or the English saddle clip. Long, close-laying ears, a highly-set tail, and dainty, oval-shaped feet provide the Poodle with a look of refinement. Easily trained, people-oriented dogs, Poodles demonstrate an intelligence that has led the breed to specialize in many arenas. From show-ring, to hunting, to ringside, the eager-to-please nature of the Poodle has made them a popular breed of choice for many. Poodles are well-known for their mellow temperament. Though sometimes described as high-strung, Poodles are well-suited to live in homes containing other animals. Vocal by nature, they make great guard or watch dogs. Bred down from their larger counterpart the Standard Poodle, Toy and Miniature Poodles are popular for their especially enthusiastic, chipper attitude. Their size makes them particularly well-suited for apartment life. Historically, Poodles have been used by the Greeks for sea sponge diving, then bred and used by the German and French as gun dogs for retrieving water fowl. Poodles didn’t, however, gain their popularity until the French began training the breed as circus performers. Generally a long-lived breed, Poodles have a lifespan that ranges between 12-15 years of age. Toy Poodles range in height from 10-15”, and weigh 10lbs. as adults.
